Kenya’s leading power utility: Kenya Power had on Wednesday, reported that the country had suffered a widespread power outage that affected majority of the country.
“The electricity supply got restored about six hours later” Kenya Power had said.
At the time of filing this report at about 6:58 am (WAT), the cause of the outage in East Africa’s largest economy, which was first reported at 1:28 a.m. local time (10:28 GMT), has yet to be determined, according to a post by Kenya Power on X.
Wednesday’s power outage is the latest in a series of continuous power outages the country has had to grapple with over the past year.
Fortunately, as of 7:35 a.m. local time (04:35 GMT), power was restored in the areas where it had gone off, the electricity company said.
Kenya Power supplies power to over 9.6 million customers in Kenya, according to its website, meaning that the outage also affected neighbouring Tanzania, according to Netblocks in a post on X.
Netblocks, a global observatory that monitors internet access had also revealed that the blackout also vastly reduced the country’s internet connectivity.
