Usman Ododo, Governor of Kogi State, has expressed condolences on the death of Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi (retd.), a former Chief of Defence Staff, on Sunday at the age of 75.

The governor, who praised the former Chief of Defence Staff’s sacrifices and impact, stated that Kogi State has lost one of its frontline statesmen who meant so well for the state’s people, and that he will miss the wise counsel of the late Admiral Ogohi in his consultations with critical stakeholders on his administration’s policies and programmes.

He prayed for the former Chief of Defence Staff’s soul to rest in peace and asked his family to take comfort in his great records and services as a military commander and politician.

The late Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi was Nigeria’s first navy commander to become Chief of Defence Staff, serving under former President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2003.

He was born in November 1948, died in the early hours of Sunday, June 30, 2024, and was laid to rest in his hometown of OKura Olafia, Dekina local government area of Kogi state.

Ododo sent a condolence message to the former Chief of Defence Staff’s family on Sunday, describing the late Ogohi as an illustrious son of Kogi State and one of Nigeria’s greatest military officers who made significant contributions to keeping Nigeria unified in the face of national crises.

What they’re saying

“Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi was a great military officer and statesman who remained committed to Nigerian unity and peaceful coexistence till his death.

“His illustrious military career saw him make enormous sacrifices as an officer to keep Nigeria as one indivisible entity, and in his retirement, he has remained a committed elder statesman making invaluable contributions to the development of Kogi State and serving as a huge source of inspiration to many in the country and beyond.

“Nigeria and the government and people of Kogi State have lost a fine and experienced military officer and rare statesman,” according to Ododo
