Bethrand Onuoha, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, has called for a thorough investigation of a purported attack on the campaign rally of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Koton-Karfe, Kogi LGA.
This directive was contained in a statement by the state command’s Police Public Relations Officer–PPRO, SP William Ovye Aya on Sunday, October 1.
He had said that the command had gotten a report of an alleged attack on the SDP campaign at Koton-Karfe, and that several people have been injured in the course of the attack.
According to Aya, the CP had commanded the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, to begin a thorough and diligent investigation of all acts of political violence, accusations and counter-accusations on all the political parties and actors with a view to bringing all lawbreakers to book.
Aya had disclosed that although other political parties have been cooperating with the Police to assit in the investigations, the SDP candidate had steadily and vehemently, spurned police invitations for investigation and requests to inform the Commissioner of Police or the State Command while embarking on political rallies so that the Police can provide adequate security coverage for him.
The statement had further sternly warned all the political parties in Kogi State and their supporters to obey the law and stop causing chaos in the State.
Kogites were additionally urged to refrain from all forms of violence as anyone caught disturbing the prevailing peaceful environment in the State would face the full wrath of the law.
