West Ham United registered a deserved 2-0 win over a lacklustre Manchester United at Old Trafford, ending United’s Premier League 16-match winless away run.
After their Europa League semi-final win, United boss Ruben Amorim made six changes to his starting eleven, handing Mason Mount and Amad Diallo their Premier League starts for the season. Diallo and Bruno Fernandes initially gave a scintillating start to the home side; however, the visitors failed to capitalize on it. Areola came up with a smart save to deny the opener.
The visitors grew into the game before going ahead in the 22nd minute. Kudus slipped a low cross to Souček at the back post, and the Czech punished United from close range. The opposition offered little challenge, and very soon, the Old Trafford mood turned sour.
The second goal for Hammers came just before the hour mark. After dispossessing Manuel Ugarte, Kudus launched another swift counter-attack, culminating in Bowen finishing from a pass by Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Despite late efforts from Garnacho and Højlund, United were unable to answer back.
The victory saw West Ham leapfrog United in the table, with the Red Devils falling into 16th and extending their Premier League winless run to seven games, equaling a club record.
