The Labour Party (LP) has taken a major step to stabilize its internal structure by electing new interim leaders. At a statutory National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Friday, the party announced Senator Usman Nenadi as Interim National Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Interim National Secretary.
This decision follows months of internal tension and leadership uncertainty. The new interim working committee is expected to manage party affairs until the next convention, where a new NEC will be elected.

The NEC meeting produced a list of new interim officials to lead the Labour Party during this transition. Senator Usman Nenadi takes over as Interim National Chairman, while Senator Darlington Nwokocha becomes Interim National Secretary.
Party officials described the development as a necessary move to restore order and prepare for a full-scale convention. “The interim working committee will oversee all party activities until fresh elections for a new NEC are conducted,” the resolution stated.
Labour Party Approves New Congress Schedule
The NEC also approved a detailed schedule for upcoming congresses. These include ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, leading up to the National Convention. The goal, according to party leaders, is to ensure democratic and transparent processes at all levels.
The Labour Party National Secretariat has been mandated to publish guidelines and timelines for these exercises. This move, stakeholders believe, will end speculation and reaffirm the party’s commitment to internal democracy.
