Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye has been named the first substantive Vice-Chancellor of the newly founded Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Ijanikin and Epe campuses by Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
When LASUED was upgraded last year to become a full-fledged degree-granting institution alongside MOCPED in Epe, Lafiaji-Okuneye, a professor of health education, was appointed as acting vice-chancellor. Before that, she served as the provost of AOCOED.
The appointment was announced by the Head of Service for Lagos State, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, in a statement made public on Wednesday by Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the Special Advisor to the Governor on Education.
The head of service announced that Lafiaji-new Okuneye’s appointment had a March 2022 backdated start date and would last for a single tenure of only five years.
The only way to support the justification for her promotion, he claimed, is for her to continue to exhibit a high level of dedication, diligence, and selflessness in the performance of her duties.
Muri-Okunola wished her luck in her new position and congratulated her.
Mr. Wahab, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, explained that Lafiaji-elevation Okuneye’s to her new status was following Section 8, Subsection (1) (C) and (D), of the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) Law of 2021. His office oversees all the tertiary schools in the state.
Additionally, he offered his congratulations and admonished her to view her appointment as a summons to greater duty.
