Lagos State corps member, Ushie Rita, widely known as Raye, has taken a firm stand against the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) after it withheld her Certificate of National Service, stating that her life remains rewarding without it.
During a live TikTok broadcast on her official account, Rita accused the NYSC of trying to present itself as “unshakeable,” while alleging that some officials within the scheme violate the same rules they expect corps members to follow.
“I did not have that certificate before, yet my life is great. NYSC insists they are not giving me the certificate. NYSC is trying to prove they are unshakeable, whereas their own people are the ones breaking the rules. I am no longer interested in the certificate,” she said.
When questioned on whether she planned to serve the two-month extension given to her by the NYSC, Rita avoided giving a definite answer.
The NYSC, however, has denied online claims that the decision was linked to any criticism she made about the government.
In its reaction, the scheme described the reports as “entirely unfounded” and stressed that her punishment was for “valid disciplinary reasons.”
The management revealed that Rita is among 131 corps members whose certificates were withheld over various offences, adding that her service year was extended by two months because she missed the April 2025 biometric clearance exercise — a penalty it maintained was in line with NYSC bye-laws.
