Not less than three buildings have been destroyed by fire on Wednesday morning in Idumota, Lagos State.
In a video shared on X by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire was observed destroying properties estimated to be worth millions of Naira in the affected buildings.
The State’s Fire and Rescue Service had posted that it received a distress call about the fire incident around 7:40am, and its emergency services had immediately mobilised its personnel to combat the fire.
The agency added that properties damaged and the casualties from the incident were yet to be identified as of the time of filing this report.
The fire was said to have occurred at the intersection of Nnamdi Azikwe and Docemo in Idumota, Lagos.
Upon the fire fighters arrival at 07:58 hours, it was discovered that the fire had affected three buildings, including two 2-storey structures and one three-storey building.
The Fire stations at Ebute Elefun, Ilupeju and Alausa were deployed to mitigate the situation.
An update at about 12pm by the Lagos State Fire Service on X had revealed a significant reduction in the intensity of the blaze.
The properties affected by the fire have been identified as house numbers 47, 49, and 51 respectively.
Unfortunately, house number 49 collapsed due to the fire’s intensity and the close proximity of buildings. As at the time of making this report at about 12:20 pm, the inferno had spread to house number 53.
The Lagos State Fire Service post partly read:
“Emergency response teams continue to work tirelessly to contain the spread of the fire and protect surrounding properties in spite of combustible materials involved including fire crackers which are triggering at intervals.
We [wish to] urge residents to remain calm and cooperate with emergency personnel.
Further updates will follow as the situation evolves.
