Barcelona president Joan Laporta has shown strong confidence that teenage sensation Lamine Yamal will extend his contract this summer. The 17-year-old made the headlines for his brilliant Euro 2024 win with Spain, is supposed to sign a new deal once he turns 18 in July, after another great season with the Catalan giants.
Yamal went full throttle this season for Barcelona, netting 18 as well as setting up a further 21 goals in all competitions — just behind Raphinha for assists. Laporta praised the boy’s one-of-a-kind talent and assured that the club is being very cautious with his future.
“Lamine is exceptional and happy at Barça. We’re working on the deal, and everything will go well. He’s a special player, and we want him here for many years,” Laporta told TV3.
The club president also noted that talks about the renewals of both Raphinha and Frenkie de Jong are advancing. This year, Raphinha has the most goal involvements in LaLiga, 56, whereas De Jong has made 45 appearances.
“Raphinha wants to stay, and Deco has a great relationship with him,” Laporta said. “De Jong’s renewal is urgent. We don’t want players entering their final contract year.”
