Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate will be out for a number of weeks due to an injury he suffered during Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Real Madrid at Anfield. The French centre-back, who had put in a strong defensive performance for the Reds, was injured late in the match following a physical battle with Madrid substitute Endrick.
Konate was left needing treatment after a succession of heavy challenges, and the setback has ruled him out of Liverpool’s crucial Premier League visit to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Early suggestions are that the 24-year-old could miss a month, meaning he might not feature against Newcastle, Everton, Girona, and Tottenham either.
Taking to Instagram to express his sadness, Konate promised to return even stronger:
Gutted to pick up this injury, right at the end of a great game on Wednesday night. Now we start the recovery process, but one thing I promise is I will come back and be the best I can be once again.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot also has a defensive headache with Joe Gomez probably continuing alongside Virgil van Dijk for the foreseeable future. Youngster Jarell Quansah might feature in the mix, too. Despite this setback, there is optimism from the Anfield faithful about the spirit of Konate to want to bounce back.
