In a not-so-surprising turn of events, Romelu Lukaku has sealed his season-long switch to Roma from Chelsea. The transfer saga ended with a heroic welcome from enthusiastic fans. Although Roma’s official confirmation is pending, Serie A itself has affirmed the completion of the deal among its list of finalized transfers.
A throng of supporters turned up at Ciampino airport near Rome to give a warm reception to Belgium’s striker Lukaku, injecting much-needed positivity after Roma’s shaky start to the Serie A season. Amid reports from Italian media, Chelsea reportedly consented to Roma’s offer of approximately six million euros ($6.5 million) for Lukaku’s services this season. This decision follows the knee ligament injury sustained by Tammy Abraham, which left Roma in search of a capable striker.
Interestingly, Lukaku willingly reduced his earnings from around 11 million euros to roughly 7.5 million euros to facilitate his move to Roma. This gesture comes in light of Roma’s adherence to a Financial Fair Play settlement agreement established with UEFA.
