MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited has officially started managing electricity distribution in Enugu State, taking over from the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).
This change happened after President Bola Tinubu signed the Electricity Act into law, which allows states to produce, transport, and distribute electricity.
The Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC) has given MainPower a temporary licence to start its operations in the state.
When giving the licence, EERC Chairman/CEO Chijioke Okonkwo asked MainPower to provide efficient, reliable, and sustainable electricity services.
“We want MainPower to work closely with the Commission to improve electricity services,” Okonkwo said.
Kester Enwereonu, a member of MainPower’s Board of Directors, promised that the company would use technology and data to improve efficiency and service delivery.
