Nnamdi Dike, who is a 41 years old guard, has been remanded by an Ikeja Magistrate Court on Monday, for sexually molesting his lover’s daughter who’s 12 years old, and who according to the law is still a minor and cannot give consent.
According to the Prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, the defendant committed the offence in November 22, No 37, Shogbade Street around the power line of Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos. He Committed the offence several times when her mother was away.
She eventually decided to report to her teacher, who informed the mother about the assault, the mother launched a report in the police station. His acts contravened sec 137 of the Criminal law of Lagos State.
“The defendant usually molested the victim whenever her mother was not at home and would threaten to kill her if she told anyone.
“The teacher, however, informed the victim’s mother, who reported the case at the police station,” Akeem added.
The defendant denied the charges by pleading “not guilty” to the charge, he was however remanded at the kirikiri Correctional center, until his case will be heard again, after the Judge has recieved legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The crime of rape, remains one of the commonest and most undereported crime of personal violence, the problem with this crime, is that there’s no specific act regulating the crime and it’s punishment, what may be regarded as rape under the criminal code may be regarded as sexual assault under the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.
