Luke Shaw, who has had a string of fitness problems over the past year and made just five appearances since, has not played since December. The 29-year-old was spotted back in training last week, raising hopes for a return for manager Ruben Amorim’s side. But Shaw may be facing another month on the sidelines because of a fresh issue, reports on Wednesday said.
The injury has been painted as not too serious by the Daily Mail, though. The Telegraph also confirmed that United sources anticipate Shaw returning to training on Monday and alleviated fears that the injury would leave him out long-term.
Patrick Dorgu was signed from Lecce as a left-back option in January and now Tyrell Malacia is on his way to PSV Eindhoven. Lisandro Martinez is out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury, and fans are demanding that Shaw plays as a left-sided centre-back in Amorim’s back three system.
Having established himself as a stalwart as United’s first-choice left-back, it would be understandable if Shaw’s place in Amorim side for the remainder of the season was now in doubt, but with his well-rounded versatility and defensive experience behind him, it could still come in useful for the Red Devils.
