Rumours have it that the Red Devils have asked about Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovač as they start a search for a long-term manager beyond the current campaign.
Ruben Amorim, who was sacked earlier this month, was replaced by Michael Carrick as an interim manager who will be in charge till the end of the season, and immediately made his mark by beating arch-rivals Manchester City 2-0.
Even though Carrick is essentially trying to secure the position on a full-time basis, the United board is likely to evaluate a broader range of candidates as part of their restructuring projects.

Sky Germany has reported that Kovač is one of the candidates on United’s shortlist after the total amount of good reputation he has earned during his time at Dortmund has been taken into account. The Croatian took over a nearly relegated team who were the 11th Bundesliga team after the first half of the season, and led the way to a 4th place finish and qualifying for the Champions League. Currently, Dortmund are second in the league and still in contention in Europe.
With a contract till 2027, Kovač is reportedly keen on managing in England after having declined the Premier League opportunities before. His coaching career highlights a Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double with Bayern Munich in 2019 and the cup success with Eintracht Frankfurt.
United are supposedly giving precedence to coach experience and a clear tactical identity as they are on the lookout for the person who can take the club to the next level of their long-term goal of regaining domestic success.
