Marcus Rashford’s future has taken another twist with reports claiming that two of the world’s top clubs, Liverpool and Manchester City, have been omitted from a crucial release clause in the contract of the Manchester United forward, who looks set to exit Old Trafford in the summer.
Having failed to nail down a consistent starting role at United in recent seasons, spending time on loan at Aston Villa and Barcelona, the 28-year-old’s future at Old Trafford is surely looking bleak now, and a departure will be high on the list for the academy product.
Previously, there was a buy-out clause to the Spanish club which stood at approximately $35 million, and this expired earlier this week, with Barca not willing to push through a move following other acquisitions this season.
The Athletic report that there is a $54 million release clause to most clubs, except for two of United’s biggest domestic rivals, Liverpool and Manchester City.
There has been no concrete movement from Jurgen Klopp’s side as far as a transfer for Rashford is concerned, but they are very keen on strengthening their forward line, with Ivorian starlet Yan Diomande having been identified as a leading target for the Reds from RB Leipzig.
Rashford is expected to be a sought-after man by European sides in the summer transfer window, though a move abroad is perceived as the most likely for the attacker.
