Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca gave a major update ahead of their Monday night Premier League match with Wolverhampton Wanderers related to injuries and transfer talk, as well as the status of Mykhailo Mudryk.
Maresca also expressed caution over the fitness of club captain Reece James. “For Reece it’s managing him correctly. If he plays 45 minutes, he can be ready, but we don’t want to take the risk of another injury,” he said.
Trevoh Chalobah, returned from Crystal Palace earlier this week, should slot back in without any issue. “We’ve got injuries, so we needed a solution. “I know Trev really well and we believe he can do a good job,” Maresca said.
Key players Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill and Romeo Lavia are doubtful after missing training. “Cole got a kick in the last game so didn’t train today. We’ll see whether he trains tomorrow,” the Italian confirmed.
On transfer speculation, Maresca said it could be a distraction. “It’s not easy. Players are human, and when there’s talk about a move, they’re human — so they may not be 100 percent focused.”
On Mudryk’s reported doping suspension, Maresca reiterated the club’s stance of support. “We are near Mykhailo and are trying to assist him, but for now there is no news.”
