For the first time ever, Paris St Germain forward, Kylian Mbappe is in his father’s native land, Cameroon, even amidst uncertainty swirling over his future at the French club.
Thrilled fans had gathered at the airport in the capital city, Yaounde, where the 24-year-old football phenomenon had touched down on Thursday, July 6, for a three-day tour of the central African nation.
The football star had this to say on Friday, July 7, after meeting with Cameroon’s Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute :
“It is an honour for me to be here, in the country of my origin, to be with my family and to see the citizens out there. They have all shown me, love,” Mbappe said on Friday after meeting.
After an eventful afternoon playing basketball against ex-NBA player, Joakim Noah, Mbappé will be travelling on Saturday, July 8 to the economic capital of the country, Douala, and to the home village of his father Wilfried.
Mbappé’s plans also include visiting schools funded by his charity, “Inspired by KM”, which specialises in teaching children with impaired hearing.
Mbappe had additionally disclosed that he had a lot more youth projects in the works in Cameroon.
Meanwhile, there is uncertainty about his future at PSG after he informed the club in June that he would not be taking up the option of a one-year extension on his contract when it terminates in 2024.
Recall that PSG had signed Mbappe from AS Monaco in 2017, in a deal purported to be worth around 196 million dollars, making him the second-most expensive signing, after Neymar, who joined the club from Barcelona for 222 million euros.
However, when interrogated on this, Mbappe had evaded the questions in Yaounde.
