France captain Kylian Mbappe would be “very happy” to see but Zidane take charge of the national team.
Didier Deschamps has announced that he will leave after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, leading to speculation about his replacement. Zidane has long been heavily linked with the position.
Mbappe spoke to French broadcaster TF1 and acknowledged the speculation while maintaining respect for Deschamps. “It isn’t me who decides. I’m trying not to talk about it too much,” he said. “You have to respect the people that are already in place.”
Still, the Madrid forward said he had respect for Zidane, saying, “If Zidane comes, it would be a great pleasure.”
Deschamps, meanwhile, has included Mbappe in his latest squad for France’s Nations League quarter-final clash against Croatia, which will see the star forward back in international action.
