The suggestion that Victor Boniface would be transferring on a temporary basis from Bayer Leverkusen to AC Milan has fallen apart as a result of a medical issue that caused the Italian club to withdraw their support.
After a mutual agreement between the two clubs on a loan deal, the Nigerian forward was supposed to have his medical in Milan. As per the information released by Kicker, the discovery of some abnormalities in the right knee of the player persuaded Milan officials to drop the deal.
Boniface was no stranger to injuries, he tore his ligaments twice, once in 2019 and the other in 2020 and he was also injured in the groin area in early 2024.
The 24-year-old had a hard time maintaining his form last season and as a result, he was only allowed to start four of Leverkusen’s 16 Bundesliga matches in 2025.
Within Xabi Alonso’s plan, Boniface is still second after Patrik Schick. His deal with the runners-up of the Bundesliga is valid until 2028 but the lack of his performance and his fitness are the reasons for his staying at the club in the long run that are still in question.
Some sources indicate that Milan will consider the deal again if they do not sign another striker, but such a change of mind is improbable. At the beginning of January, Boniface was also on the point of transferring to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia; however, the move was called off at the last stage.
