Seven times Balon D’or winner, Lionel Messi, has created a new champions league record after scoring a goal for Paris Saint Germain in their match against Israeli side, Maccabi Haifa in the Group H category.
Tjrann Cherry scored the first goal for Maccabi in the 24th minute putting the Israeli team in the lead, Messi equalized for PSG in the 37th minute. Messi’s goal has created a new record in the champions league, as he is the first player to score against 39 different teams in the Champions League exceeding Christiano Ronaldo’s record who is on 38.
Since this is Messi’s first time scoring a goal against an Israeli club, it signifies that he has found the net against at least one club from 19 different countries in his champions league career, and also this makes it his 18th season of scoring in the Champions League.
Messi also provided an assist for Kylian Mbappe, who scored the second goal in the 69th minute, Neymar added another goal for PSG two minutes to the end of the match.
