Carrick now leads Manchester United full-time after signing through June 2028. The club made it official without delay or extra details.

Starting in January, Carrick stepped into the role after Ruben Amorim was let go. Expected to stay through season’s end, his path unfolded without clear signals about what came next.

The club moved slowly, eyes open for someone permanent, while he held things together. Not planned as a long run, yet there he remained, steering amid uncertainty.
That idea didn’t last long once he started playing. A 2–0 defeat of Manchester City came first, then a tight 3–2 win against Arsenal – suddenly wins piled up, seven without loss, and confidence began humming through the team.

Finding form late, eleven victories came under Carrick across sixteen games. Third in the league emerged after his lead, points piling up when momentum shifted. Qualification for Europe’s top club competition followed naturally once the run held firm.

Nowhere was there more pressure than on the boardroom table once wins started piling up week after week. His name kept appearing in conversations long before anyone officially spoke it out loud.

Right now, thoughts shift toward reshaping the team, especially in the middle of the field. With Casemiro possibly moving on, plus Manuel Ugarte looking set to exit too, options shrink fast. Suddenly, Kobbie Mainoo stands alone as the one clear choice at center. Next season looms large under that shadow.

Fresh eyes are on Elliot Anderson while Carrick begins remaking the team at Old Trafford, setting up what comes next. Not every name gets attention, but his does right now.
