The Multinational Joint Task Force —MNJTF, has reacted to false reports proclaiming the withdrawal of Sector 4 Niger from the body.
In a statement issued on Sunday, November 19, the Chief Military Public Information Officer in Ndjamena, Chad, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, stated that the insinuations were false and lacked official correspondence, emphasising that Niger still remained an integral member of the MNJTF.
“The MNJTF was launched with the objective of building a safe and sheltered environment in areas affected by the Boko Haram activities and other terrorist groups.
“Niger, together with other member countries, provides ket support in achieving this mandate. We want to emphasise that at no point has there been any official communication regarding Niger’s withdrawal or exit from the MNJTF,” the statement announced.
MNJTF warned that these insinuations undermined the cumulative efforts and commitment of all member countries in their battle against terrorism and insecurity in the region, urging media outlets and individuals to check the information from well known sources before broadcasting or disseminating it further.
