The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Umudike has a policy of not tolerating any form of student indiscipline, including cultism.
On Saturday, during the 29th University matriculation ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Maduebibisi Ofor Iwe issued the warning.
The VC revealed that the matriculation is for the academic year 2021–2022 and that a total of 6,802 students have been admitted thus far.
He informed the new pupils that if they disobeyed the school’s current regulations, their admissions would be withdrawn.
He notably warned against cultism, cheating on exams, and lewd clothing.
We bemoaned the negative impacts of cultism on the educational system in Nigeria, but she also pointed out that the school had written some publications to educate students about the perils of cultism.
The Vice-Chancellor took the opportunity to warn any incoming students who were involved in cults to leave them right away or face being expelled from the higher institution.
The university had worked hard to uphold its key mandates in Nigerian integrated and coordinated agricultural education as well as contributing to the nation’s self-sufficiency in food and fiber production, he further informed the students and their parents.
