Jose Mourinho won’t be out of work for long. The renowned Portuguese coach, who left Roma in January, is set to take over at Turkey’s Fenerbahce, according to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Mourinho has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract with the Istanbul-based club, with an option for a third year. The deal was negotiated by well-known agent Jorge Mendes, and only the formal signing of documents remains.
This will be Mourinho’s tenth managerial role, having previously coached Benfica, Leiria, Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Roma.
In Istanbul, Mourinho could reunite with Edin Dzeko, whom he briefly managed at Roma. The Turkish club also features Brazilian Fred, who played under Mourinho at Manchester United, as well as stars like Dusan Tadic and Michy Batshuayi.
Fenerbahce were managed by Turkish coach Ismail Kartal last season, who led the team to a commendable 99 points with only one league loss. However, this impressive tally was still not enough to secure the title, as rivals Galatasaray finished with 102 points. Fenerbahce’s wait for their 20th Turkish title has now extended to 10 years.
