Three persons have reportedly died, and two others, injured in a fatal multiple auto crash which took place along Olooru-Okoolowo highway in Kwara State on Monday.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC in Kwara State, Stephen Dawulung had confirmed that the multiple accident, which happened at about 15:15 pm, led to an inferno which razed the vehicles, plus a motorcycle which was involved.
According to Dawulung, “FRSC rescue operatives were immediately mobilized to the crash scene upon being informed if the car crash at about 15:15, where they worked in partnership with operatives of Nigeria Police Force and Federal Fire Service to save some passengers before the fire ignited.”
“Preliminary investigations showed that a vehicle transporting feeds enroute Lagos had attempted to overtake another vehicle but had unfortunately, collided with an oncoming trailer carrying brewery products. Additionally, a tanker carrying petroleum products which was closely following the tanker carrying brewery products also crashed into them.
These multiple accidents sparked the fire that got worse due to the presence of petroleum products.
Dawulung revealed that a total of five people were involved in the crash. Two of them were passengers on the motorcycle and they sustained injuries but had immediately been taken to the General hospital, Ilorin. The remaining three others involved in the crash unfortunately lost their lives as they got burnt in the inferno. The corpses of the dead have been claimed by their relatives,” the FRSC Sector Commander finished.
