Nigerian Afrobeat singer and Grammy award-winning artiste, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, officially known as Wizkid, turned 32 today 16th July, and fans took to various social media platforms to celebrate the legendary singer.
Wizkid who made his debut in the Nigerian music scene in 2011 is still making huge waves both in the local and international scene. In many ways, he has contributed to promoting Nigerian music in Africa and other parts of the globe, with his songs gaining a lot of airplay and topping the charts of both local and international music.
The Nigerian singer and songwriter started recording music at age 11 and managed to release a collaborative album with the Glorious Five, a group he formed with a couple of his church friends.
Wizkid has immensely contributed to the success of afrobeat by fusing his sounds with that of other international musicians, thereby putting his country, Nigeria and Africa on the map. The ‘Joro’ crooner has recorded a huge success in his music career by winning a lot of international awards.
Besides getting recognitions from international award organizers, Wizkid has worked with big American artists like Beyonce, Drake, Wale, Tyga, and Chris Brown among several others. In 2019, Wizkid was among the African musicians, selected to feature in Beyonce’s Lion King album. The Beyonce song featured Wizkid in “Brown Skin Girl” became a hit and this song won him his first Grammy award.
With the trending hashtags #WizkidAt32, and #Machala, his fans, also known as Wizkid FC, took to Twitter, today to celebrate the star on social media.
