The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies, under the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has started an unlimited strike because of disagreements about promotions and concerns about their well-being.
This strike comes after many meetings with NAFDAC’s leaders that didn’t solve the important problems for the employees. Ejor Michael, Secretary of theTrade Union Congress (TUC), stated:
“This decision was made because NAFDAC’s leaders didn’t fix the important problems we talked about in our letter within the time we gave them.”
The problems that haven’t been solved include looking at the results of the 2024 promotion test, choosing directors for public affairs and special tasks, deciding where people from the northwest and northeast will train, and changing the content of the promotion test. The statement, released on October 4, 2024, clearly explained these unresolved problems.
The strike could affect NAFDAC’s crucial role of making sure food and drugs in Nigeria are safe and work well, especially with worries about poor-quality drugs. NAFDAC had recently warned about the increase in bad drugs due to the country’s tough economy.
Stakeholders involved are asked to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve these urgent issues and get NAFDAC back to normal operation.
