A private jet having about 10 persons onboard– Very Important Personalities (VIPs) included– has overshot the Ibadan airport runway in the Oyo State capital.
An unverified source said that the incident occurred on Friday around 11 am at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport.
The jet with the registration number, N580KR, completely missed the runway and skidded into a nearby bush.
Firefighters and rescue officials from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria had been immediately deployed to the scene. But there was thankfully, no death or casualty recorded.
A spokesperson for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, –NCAA, Carol Adekotujo, informed a Channels News correspondent over the phone.
“It was a private plane from Abuja. It landed safely but overshot the runway. There was no casualty.”
When contacted, a spokesman for the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, –NSIB, Tunji Oketunmbi, confirmed the incident but said a team had been dispatched to the site for an inquiry.
The rate of aviation incidents in the past few months has been concerning despite the dismissal and substitution of the heads of aviation agencies.
Not too long ago in November 2023, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, narrowly avoided death when a plane he had boarded crash-landed at the same airport.
