The High Court in Kwara, Ilorin on Thursday convicted Christopher Adetuberu, a National Youth Service Corps -NYSC member currently serving in Ogbomosho, Oyo state, for offenses about internet fraud. The Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission -EFCC, in Ilorin secured the conviction.
Justice Ibrahim Yusuf, the presiding judge, reported that Adetuberu, aged 28, was found guilty of the two counts of cybercrime charged against him by the EFCC at the Ilorin Zonal Command.
Justice Yusuf sentenced the defendant to two years in jail with N200,000 as the option of a fine, adding that Adetuberu’s imprisonment would serve as a warning to others.
The court additionally ordered the forfeiture of a 3-Bedroom flat acquired with the proceeds of the illegal activities, a Lexus car, different brands of phones, a laptop, as well as the sum of N921, 535.49 found in the convict’s bank account to the Federal Government.
The convict had in the process of investigation, disclosed that he came into the 419-scam aka ‘Yahoo Yahoo Business’ in 2016 and had built a house with the proceeds of the illegal activities among other procurements.
