The Nigerian Bar Association–NBA 2023 Annual General Conference has officially begun in Abuja with an opening ceremony of the 63rd edition held on the eve of Sunday, August 27.
President Bola Tinubu and other government officials are currently at the time of filing this report, present at the event which is taking place at the velodrome of the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Nigeria’s capital city.
The subject of this year’s convention is “Getting it Right and Charting the Course for Nigeria’s Nation Building”.
According to NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau, this year’s conference is centred around three subject areas – security, economy, and the administration of Justice.
Maikyau had also expressed hopes that after the conference, the NBA can plan an agenda for Nigerians around these themes so as to engage the Presidency for the good of the country.
President Tinubu had in his speech, called for a adjust in the mindset and approach to governance.
The Nigerian leader had also highlighted the lack of electricity in most of the homes in the country as disgraceful.
He, however, had promised to rework the narrative and also exile poverty from Nigeria which he says is unacceptable.
President Tinubu had also reiterated that the country could not keep servicing the foreign debt with more than 90% of its proceeds. Tinubu had finally, highlighted that the country had to make very hard decisions on the road to achieving greatness.
