Chelsea football club can finally operate as a normal football club as the sanctions placed on them because of their former owner, Roman Abramovich, have now been lifted. The consortium led by Todd Boehly has finally completed the process of the takeover and has ended the 19 years of ownership of the club by a Russian billionaire by agreeing to a deal of £4.25 billion ($5.3 billion) on the 7th of May.
The club was sanctioned on the 10th of March and the process of takeover which should have taken up to nine months to one year was achieved in the space of three months. The club has been able to acquire all necessary consent, especially from the United Kingdom Government, as well as further licenses required in Portugal, Canada, and Jersey.
This is joyful news for not only the management but also the players and the fans as the club can now put up for sale their match tickets, jerseys, and other club products.
“We are honored to become the new custodians of Chelsea Football Club. We’re all in, 100 percent, every minute of every match,” Boehly said.
