Nicaragua had on Friday, said that it is breaking off diplomatic ties with Israel, citing the Israeli government being “fascist” and “genocidal.”
In an official statement, Nicaragua’s government, said that the break in relations was due to Israel’s attacks on Palestinian territories.
The nation’s congress had previously passed a resolution requesting Nicaragua to take action to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the Gaza war.
The conflict now also extends against Lebanon and gravely threatens Syria, Yemen and Iran, according to the Nicaraguan government.
The Middle East has been put on high alert for further regional escalation after Iran blasted a barrage of missiles at Israel on October 1st. Iran is supporting the Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah, which Israel has targeted in a series of deadly attacks.
Iran is also a supporter of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega’s administration.
The Central American nation has become increasingly isolated in recent years after Ortega clamped down on anti-government protests in 2018, which rights groups have said left about 300 dead.
