Two individuals have been taken into custody by the Niger State Police Command on charges of conspiracy, motorbike theft, and receiving stolen items.
SP Wasiu Abiodun, the command’s Public Relations officer, made the remark on Tuesday in Minna.
Abiodun stated that the feat was accomplished as part of the command’s ongoing efforts to curb crime and criminal activities in the state.
He revealed that around 2:30 p.m. on April 3, following a received complaint, the command’s Crack Squad apprehended two suspects.
He disclosed that the arrested suspects are Mohammed Usman, aged 18, and 22-year-old Mohammed Kola.
“It was reported that on March 28, at about 5 pm, the said Usman boarded a motorcycle to a hotel around Tunga by Old City-gate.
“After dropping, he invited the cyclist to his hotel room, while he tricked the cyclist, took his motorcycle key and locked him in the room and made away with the motorcycle.
“In the course of investigation, police detectives swung into action and arrested Abdullahi, who has a pending case of criminal force and assault over a gang fight at a mining site in Paiko”, Abiodun said.
He further mentioned that Abdullahi took police officers to a mining site in Paiko, where Usman was expecting him to hand over the proceeds of the crime, leading to his arrest.
The spokesperson also revealed that two motorcycles were recovered from Abdullahi, who admitted that Usman had given them to him to sell.
He went on to say that Usman also admitted to the crime, revealing that he stole one of the motorcycles from a mining site in Obajana, Kogi, earlier in March.
He stated that the two suspects, along with the recovered motorcycles, were currently being investigated at the Crack Squad office.
