Nigeria is mourning the loss of a great scholar and leader in education, Emeritus Professor Ayodeji Banjo. Professor Banjo passed away recently at the age of 90.
President Buhari expressed his sadness over Professor Banjo’s passing. The President said that Professor Banjo was a shining example of professionalism and good character throughout his career.
“President Tinubu mourns the academic par excellence, who only recently turned 90, describing him as a stout beacon of professional and moral excellence.
“The President celebrates the life and legacies of the late Emeritus Professor of English, renowned for his immense contributions to the development of education in Nigeria,” the statement said.
Professor Banjo was a giant in the field of education. He served as the principal of the prestigious University of Ibadan for many years. He also played a key role in shaping education policy across Nigeria by leading the National Universities Commission. Professor Banjo’s dedication to education extended beyond his own country. He also held leadership positions at several other universities.
President Buhari asked Nigerians to join him in celebrating Professor Banjo’s life and the many ways he improved education in Nigeria. The President offered his condolences to Professor Banjo’s family, friends, and colleagues.
