Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have advanced to the semi-finals of the ongoing WAFU B U-17 Championship in Ghana, set to face Ivory Coast on Saturday. This progression follows their impressive 3-0 victory over Togo in the final group stage match on Thursday.
The rescheduled Group B game, held at the Rugby Pitch of the University of Ghana, saw striker Abdulmuiz Adeleke shine with a brace, complemented by a goal from Rapha Adams. This win secured Nigeria the top spot in the group with seven points and a superior goal difference over Burkina Faso.
Adeleke, pivotal in the morning encounter, scored his first goal in the 11th minute following an assist from Abdulmuiz Oladimeji, having missed an earlier chance in the sixth minute. Rapha Adams then doubled Nigeria’s lead before halftime, enhancing his growing reputation with his second goal of the tournament.
In the 57th minute, Adeleke struck again, this time assisted by team captain Cletus, solidifying Nigeria’s dominance with a 3-0 lead. Despite missing the opportunity for a hat-trick after failing to convert a penalty in the 68th minute, Adeleke’s performance was instrumental in securing the Golden Eaglets’ second win of the tournament.
Edward Ochigbo was recognized for his exceptional play and was named Player of the Match. The Golden Eaglets will now turn their focus to the semi-final clash against Ivory Coast, aiming to continue their strong form in the tournament.
