At least 93 unexploded bombs (ordnance) have been retrieved at the Ikeja Military Cantonment, in Lagos State.

The retrieval had been in line with the ongoing ‘Exercise Clean Sweep,’ which commenced on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

Exercise Clean Sweep is being done to decontaminate the epicentre of the 2002 bomb blast at the cantonment.

According to the Army, the retrieved explosives were in different calibres and descriptions.

Colonel Abdulrazaq Kazeem, the Director at the Directorate of Explosives Search and Disposal, Nigeria Army Engineers/Coordinator of EXERCISE CLEAN SWEEP, had made this revelation on Thursday, October 12.

Kazeem had said:

“So far, an average of 93 unexploded artillery have been recovered from the site.”

“The instancd we reach maximum limits of explosives within our holding area, such weapons will be moved to the range.”

“If we reach the explosive limits today, I will move to the range this same day. I will not surpass a kilogram above the explosive limits because it is measured in kilograms. At 93, we have not yet reached the limits.”
