The Federal Government has announced plans to raise telecom prices but promised Nigerians that the increase will not be as much as the 100% requested by telecom companies. Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, disclosed this at a stakeholders meeting in Abuja and added that the details of the adjustment would be announced by the commission.
The minister also stressed that the government is working to keep prices affordable for Nigerians while making sure telecom companies can survive during this time of rising global inflation.
Tijani recognized that telecom companies have been pushing for a big price increase recently, but he made it clear that the government won’t allow such a large jump. He also mentioned the government’s efforts to safeguard telecom facilities, promote local content in the sector, and ensure fair prices that benefit both businesses and customers.
While some price adjustments are unavoidable because of economic challenges, he promised that any changes would be made thoughtfully to avoid causing unnecessary difficulties for Nigerians.
