Kashim Shettima, the Nigerian Vice-President, has urged the North-East Development Commission–NEDC, to increase the scope of its interventions in the North-East region to encompass more road projects regardless of their level.
Shettima had made the announcement on Saturday, September 9, while kickstarting the allocation of 15 billion Naira worth of food items to the governors of the region and in addition, the construction of a 22 kilometer road along Mafa Road in Maiduguri.
The innovative event by the NEDC had tallied with the meeting of the Governors Forum of the North-East, which pioneered in 2023, at the Government House, Maiduguri.
With the help of the host governor, Babagana Zulum, and all the state governors in the region, the Vice President launched the construction of a 22.5 km road construction which will serve as a connection to many communities within Jere Local Government Area, and a few parts of Mafa LGA.
Shettima had afterwards, led the other dignitaries to the multipurpose hall of the Government House where the North-East governors usually held their quarterly meeting.
Mohammed Goni Alkali, the Managing Director of NEDC, had thereafter, delivered the welcome address, after which Shettima made a few remarks.
At the close of the ceremony, the Vice President departed for Abuja from where he was to visit Kebbi State to commission the construction of about 1,000 houses across the North-West and North Central states in the country.
