In light of recent security concerns,
The Nigerian police and military forces have taken bold steps to guarantee a safe and smooth Sallah celebration in the country today, Wednesday, June 28.
Several operatives had been deployed to Eid prayer grounds, recreation arenas, and popular spots across the country to this effect.
This increase in security measures was as a response to an alert broadcast by the Department of State Services, DSS, regarding a probable plot by alleged terrorists to target worship and religious centers during the Eid celebrations.
In addressing the situation, the acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had dispatched thousands of police operatives to critical locations, and the military had also placed its soldiers on red alert at operation theaters.
Meanwhile, Muyiwa Adejobi, the Inspector-General of Police had in a statement, directed the zonal assistant inspectors-general of police and commissioners of police to station personnel and equipment for comprehensive security coverage for the entirety of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration period.
The directive also included a continuous patrol on notable highways, worship centres, flash points, relaxation spots, and other vulnerable areas.
The precautions taken to prevent insecurity that would have marred the holy celebration is indeed praiseworthy and encouraging.
