The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has come under heavy criticism for publicly defending Drambi Vandi, former ASP and the trigger-happy policeman who had killed a pregnant Lagos-based lawyer, Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem on Christmas day in Ajah.
Raheem, who had been pregnant at the time of her death, was shot in the Ajah area of Lagos State.
Meanwhile, while giving his take on the incident in Splash FM Radio interview, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Adejobi had described the killer policeman as a very nice man and most probably, a victim of diabolical manipulation.
In his words, “One thing people should understand is, we are in Yoruba land here now. I’m sure several elders will understand what they called “efun, edi, arosin, asasi’ (some magical spells cast on people to make them misbehave)”.
“What happens in the physical realm is controlled by the spiritual realm. The man was never a drunk, I was told that he is a very nice man. I know him. The guy is a very good man.”
However, the remark had not gone down well with Nigerians as they accused Adejobi of being insensitive and defending a murderer.
‘If I ‘misbehave’ under spells, would you decide not to arrest me?’ One twitter had asked.
Another user had also opined: “Of course, he is ‘a very nice man.’ Nice security personnel kills innocent citizens, and their spokesman justifies them by blaming the devil. Thereafter, the killer walks free. Nothing happens! And you blame those who want out of this hellish country called Nigeria?”
