According to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), 110 million Nigerians have registered for the National Identification Number (NIN), which means an increase of 2.4 percent from 107.34 million recorded in May. At the sixth edition of the National Day of Identity event, themed “Digital Public Infrastructure: Enabling Access to Services,” the Director-General of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, made this disclosure in Abuja.

Abisoye Coker-Odusote referred to this feat as a result of NIMC’s strategic plan, stating that it was imperative for Nigeria’s economic growth that digital public infrastructure (DPI) must be established. According to her, DPI plays a vital role in linking citizens with fundamental services such as social welfare, healthcare, education, and financial inclusion.

The Director-General of NIMC emphasized the significance of the National Identification Number (NIN), which has enabled over 110 million Nigerians to sign up, thus creating a unique opportunity for the development and adoption of data exchange and payment services.
