NIMC DG Issues Warning; Says Staff Involved in Fraud Will Face Consequences

The Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has issued a note of warning to staff of the commission against partaking in any form of unlawfulness.

She warned that any staff of the Commission that tried to work with illegal perpetrators will face a disciplinary committee, according to the provisions of the existing laws.

The DG, had while addressing journalists during a media interaction at NIMC head office in Abuja on Friday, also remarked that she would make sure that individuals do not waste the entire day to solve simple issues at NIMC offices.

The DG had blown hot and declared that she “will not allow that to continue to happen. We will provide all necessary means to address the issue.”

She continued saying;

“We want to ensure that life is easy and seamless. One should not spend three to four hours in the NIMC office because of NIN services.”

“Any staff of NIMC that tries to work with illegal perpetrators will face disciplinary committee and be tried according to the Cybercrime Act 2015 and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Same with any illegal perpetrators.”

Speaking further, the DG announced that the Commission would be considering upward review of some of its rates.
“We are going to review our rate. It is not going to be much, but it will be reviewed. We have not reviewed our rate for a long time. It is not going to be exorbitant.”

What Does This Mean

The NIMC’s clampdown on fraudulent activities among its staff is aimed at ensuring integrity and efficiency within the commission.

By cautioning its staff against unlawful behavior and enforcing disciplinary measures, the NIMC is looking to maintain trust in its services and uphold standards of professionalism. A very commendable endeavour.
