The Nigerian Postal Service, NIPOST, has cordoned off offices and confiscated several motorcycles when it raided an unlicensed and illegal courier and logistics operations in Katsina State.

Dotun Shonde, the NIPOST General Manager of Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department, CLRD, had explained that the main objective of the exercise was to sanitise the sector that was already infiltrated by unlicensed and illegal operators based across the country.

In Shonde’s words:
“The issue of public safety and the security threat owing to the carriage of illegal drugs and contraband items like small ammunition, guns, gold, monies and obscene items is quite concerning.”

Shonde also added that the illegal sharp ways of cutting of prices, pilfering, broaching, damaging, losing and dumping of customers’ goods, poaching and subletting of operating licenses were being practiced blatantly .

There was also the issue of the excess public complaints about customers being swindled by officers with no traceable office address nor registered brand name.

According to Shonde, over 200 illegal operators had been identified in Katsina State alone, and most of them had been served with demand notice, but they had failed to comply with the directive.

The NIPOST General Manager had then concluded the statement by revealing that due process had to be followed or the companies involved would face the full wrath of the law.
