Ahmad Bagari, the Comptroller of the Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service, stated that 700 permanent voter cards were collected from foreigners residing in the state.
Nura Ibrahim, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed this in a statement. He claimed that the recovery exercise was part of NIS’s attempts to ensure that no foreigners vote in the general election on Saturday.
Items recovered from the 700 foreigners, including PVCs and National Identification cards, were confiscated and turned over to the NIS national headquarters in Abuja.
Although urging the inhabitants of the state to follow criteria for a successful free, fair, and legitimate election, the statement also claimed that the state’s borders had been closed.
