The National Inland Waterways Authority has recognized the construction of infrastructure and enough finance as methods of enhancing the allure of the country’s inland waterways. This was said by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NIWA, Dr. George Muoghalu, in Port-Harcourt when he met the Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, who was visiting the agency’s state area office to tour the facilities and commission new boats.
He added that a regulatory framework was required to make these advantages a reality. Muoghalu emphasized the significance of developing the infrastructure necessary for a national network of inland waterways that would link creeks, rivers, and economic centers by employing river ports as nodes for intermodal interchange.
