The organised labour unions, consisting of the Trade Union Congress, (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC) have declared an indefinite strike starting from October 3, 2023.
Festus Osifo, the TUC President, had announced the strike during a joint press conference that was also attended by the President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero in FCT, Abuja on Tuesday, September 26.
Ajaero had castigated the Federal Government over what he had tagged a lackadaisical attitude to address the demands raised by the unions since the subsidy removal policy commenced.
He also accused the government of deliberately refusing to engage in a meaningful and constructive dialogue within the scope of good faith during the 21-day ultimatum they were given, and the subsequent successful 2-day nationwide warning strike on the 5th and 6th of September respectively.
According to the NLC President, the National Executive Councils (NEC) of the NLC and TUC in their different meetings had consciously analyzed the current situation in the country, taking into account, the extensive hardships and deprivation affecting the citizens nationwide.
Osifo on the other hand had asked all patriotic Nigerians to join hands and aid the government to put the people back at the centre of its policies and programmes.
