The presidency has given its opinion on the recent controversy around buying firearms for state-owned security outfits.
In a statement issued to the public on Tuesday, September 27, by Mallam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, it was announced that no individual was allowed to illegally carry an AK-47 or any other automatic firearms and, that they should surrender any firearms in their possession immediately.
The presidency additionally stated that under the existing regulation in the country, the office with the authority to issue such instructions was the Office of the National Security Adviser, and this could only happen under proper clearance by the President and Commander-in-Chief.
A part of the statement had read: “no such approvals have been issued to any state government.”
