Nollywood Actress and Producer Regina Daniels who is the wife of Ned Nwoko have cried against employing minors for certain roles in the movie industry.
She gave this advice on her Instagram page, where she urged Nollywood producers and celebrities to speak against Child labour.
According to her, she had an encounter with a 14-year-old girl who was inappropriately dressed on a movie set, on speaking with the young lady she discovered that the lady left Port Harcourt where her home is located to Lagos, moving from one hotel to another looking for a place to pass the night, though it might seem that she’s learning the industry is not a safe place for minors with no guidance
She said, “I met a 14-year-old girl wearing a short skirt, and crop top and working under another young guy on the movie set who claims to be a make-up artist. Her parents are far away in Port Harcourt and she came to Lagos last year. She sleeps in different hotel rooms with whoever agrees to accommodate her every night and is not willing to go back to her parents. This girl told me that she is here to learn but trust me, I know the industry and it is not a safe place for young girls.”
This also served as a warning to parents, to be very conscious of their child’s activities in the industry.
Generally, the industry is not a safe place for adults not to talk of teenagers, as we hear about sex for roles every day in the industry, where directors and producers demand sex from ladies for roles, minors should not be exposed to such kind of situation as it is not favorable to teenagers with no guidance.
From someone like Regina who has been in the industry since she was a child, this should be taken very seriously, and also child labor isn’t something pleasing to the ears, children should be protected.
