Nordic associations pull backing for Infantino

Six Scandinavian associations have withdrawn their support for FIFA president Gianni Infantino piling more pressure on the game’s governor ahead of his reelection in 2015.

The Scandinavian federations lost faith in Infantino’s leadership when they met in Helsinki yesterday and “also join UEFA and other football federations in asking Gianni Infantino to resign the post of FIFA president”.

Nordic associations pull backing for Infantino

The federations of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the Faroes published a joint statement to that effect on Sunday.

“The six Nordic associations no longer have confidence in FIFA’s presidency and are in doubt regarding how FIFA’s highest administrative body works,” the statement continues.

Nordic organizations want a full investigation into FIFA’s contentious proposal for forward business that implied an invitation to private investors on stakes in future big sporting competitions, want a guarantee FIFA’s competitions would “never be privatised” and “demand independent governance of the FIFA’s internal structures.”

Infantino, searching for a third term which could last until 2031 has drawn fire from some associations already; it already exists a promise that Denmark will propose a “real opposition candidate”. Infantino is yet to react on the matter.
